Afordonz Consulting Limited – Our client, specializes in Manufacturing of Chemicals and Allied products is seeking to recruit and fill the position below:

Job Title: Financial Controller

Location: Lagos


Job Summary

  • The Financial controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate and manage risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.

Responsibilities
Management:

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage outsourced functions
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
  • Oversee the accounting operations especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.

Transactions:

  • Ensure that accounts payable/receivable are timely settled.
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.

Reporting:

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide for a system of management cost reports
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information
  • Report financial results to the board of directors.

Compliance:

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Planning, formulating the company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Develop financial and tax strategies
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
  • Develop performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction.

Operations:

  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
  • Manage the accounting, human resources, investor relations, legal, tax, and treasury departments
  • Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package
  • Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions.

Risk Management:

  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Report risk issues to the audit committee of the board of directors
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.

Funding:

  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  • Arrange for debt and equity financing
  • Invest funds and maintain banking relationships
  • Participate in conference calls with the investment community
  • Represent the company with investment bankers and investors.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate should have at least a B.Sc Degree in Accounting,
  • Must be Chartered or about to be Chartered ACCA or its equivalent and must have a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience on the job role.
